The purpose of this
website is to document and explore the family history of the Coronado Family
who lived in and prospered in Napa and Solano Counties in northern California
starting in the 1850s.
My mother, Cecelia Coronado Phipps, was the unofficial family historian. She kept a running correspondence with family members, sharing stories and getting updates on family events. She was also responsible for many of the family reunions that took place over the years. She kept and maintained a broad collection of photographs and documents that she assembled from her mother, Louisa Madrid Coronado, and other family members. All of that information was passed on to me when she died in 1987. I expect to use the photos, stories and other documents to tell the story of the family on this website.
I have also done a considerable amount of original research online and in local libraries as well as city, county, state and federal offices. I have poured over land records; tax and assessment records; probate records; birth, death, marriage and burial records; church records; and cemetery records. In fact my wife is telling me to stop taking her for walks in cemeteries and visiting musty record offices.
I published the Coronado Newsletter on an occasional basis from November 1993 until November 1997. It was distributed to family members and the libraries of the Napa Valley Genealogical and Biographical Society and the Solano County Genealogical Society. The purpose of the Newsletter was the same as this website: to explore and report on Coronado family history. In telling the family history on this website, I will use and update some of the stories, pictures and information that were in the Newsletter issues.
All Coronado family members are warmly invited to contribute to this website. Stories, information, family events, pictures, corrections and clarifications are always welcome.
